The Communications & Fundraising Assistant helps create the story GCY shares with everyone engaged with our work. Help us share our story and be part of fulfilling our mission! The Communications & Fundraising Assistant assists Grand Canyon Youth with communications, marketing, fundraising, and administrative duties. They will primarily share our stories of impact through print materials, social media posts, and public engagement with the broader GCY community, including donors, employees, participants, parents/guardians, and the general public.
Work hours: flexible scheduling between 9 am – 5 pm, 10-15 hours/week, with some nights and weekends. This is an in-person position at our office, 2131 N. First Street in Flagstaff, AZ.
The Communications & Fundraising Assistant reports directly to the Development Director.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities
Communications & Marketing Support (40% of position)
- Assisting the Development Director in completing the annual communications plan.
- Digital Content Creation: creating engaging digital content, managing social media channels, updating website materials, and capturing and organizing photos and videos.
- Design & Draft Communication Materials – such as newsletters, thank you letters, program information sheets, blog posts, social media posts, etc.
- Analytics Tracking Support- including donor list segmentation, assessing campaign performance, and tracking open rates and website traffic.
Fundraising & Event Support (40% of position)
- Supporting our annual River Tales fundraising event on Oct. 17, 2026, a storytelling and online auction event. Tasks include: collecting & tracking incoming auction items, updating the fundraising website, setting up and engaging on event night, and distributing items to auction winners.
- Research prospective grants
- Assist with and attend occasional community events in Flagstaff
Administrative Support (20% of position)
- Mailing and shipping
- Answering phones and greeting the public
- Maintaining an organized and welcoming office space
- Support cross-organizational initiatives, including assisting the Operations or Executive Teams

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Willingness to work as part of a professional small nonprofit team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demeanor well-suited to skillful public engagement.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage and communicate details; must be exceptionally detail-oriented.
- Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
- Be of sound judgment and able to make good decisions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Demonstrated ability to think creatively and accomplish responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge in social media and public-facing platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
- Experience or interest in learning design, databases, spreadsheets, communication & marketing planning.
- Comfortable working with technology and have familiarity with or willingness to learn: Google Suite, Excel, Canva, Hootsuite, Auctria, WordPress, Bloomerang, and Constant Contact.
- Practical knowledge or ability to learn common office equipment, including computers, printers, and phones.
- Ability to function in a busy work environment, including a shared office with frequent interruptions.
- Must have reliable transportation to get to/from the GCY office.
Minimum Educational Requirements
- Student seeking a degree in Communications/Marketing/Business, or a related field.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Pass a pre-employment background and drug test.
- Lived experience demonstrating the ability to learn, think critically, and work well with others of varying backgrounds.

The Communications & Fundraising Assistant will work closely with the Development Director to support fundraising goals and professional outreach to GCY’s many constituent groups, including donors, alumni, volunteers, parents, collaborators, community members, families, and prospective youth participants.
