History of SHPE: Rodrigo Garcia was a Civil Engineer in Los Angeles, California and was one of the few minorities at his workplace. His community had diversity, but it was not represented in his work environment so he wanted to figure out how he could make the change in STEM fields. Thus, SHPE was formed in 1974 and is now in 375 colleges across the US.
