SUMMARY:

The Design Engineering Intern supports the Engineering team in the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of electro-mechanical products. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in engineering processes, including drafting, engineering change management, and Sales Order support. The intern will work closely with Design Engineers, Application Engineers, and cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy, adherence to standards, and timely delivery of engineering outputs.

This position focuses on developing foundational engineering skills while contributing to real-world projects that support production and customer deliverables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Drawing Updates: Support updates to engineering drawings, including revisions, corrections, and standardization efforts in alignment with company drafting standards.

• Drafting Support: Assist in the creation and modification of 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks to support Sales Orders and engineering initiatives.

• ECO/ECN Support: Assist with Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), including implementing drawing updates, supporting documentation changes, and ensuring proper revision control.

• Documentation Accuracy: Ensure drawings, BOMs, and related engineering documents are accurate, complete, and aligned with engineering standards.

• Sales Order Support: Provide drafting and documentation support for Sales Orders, including updating standard designs and assisting with layout modifications.

• Data Management: Support data entry and validation within Epicor and PDM systems, ensuring consistency and accuracy of engineering data.

• Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with Production, Quality Control, and Planning teams to resolve basic engineering-related issues and improve documentation clarity.

• Continuous Improvement: Participate in Lessons Learned activities and contribute to improving engineering processes, standards, and documentation practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Technical Skills:

• Basic knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)

• Familiarity with engineering drawings and drafting concepts

• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word)

Preferred Skills (Not Required):

• Exposure to PDM systems or ERP systems (e.g., Epicor)

• Basic understanding of sheet metal design

• Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems

  • Fine finger manipulation includes writing, typing and using the phone system.
